i live in the middle east, and to the contrary i’ve hated summer for much of my life. winter is the time we get out, cherish the wind and visit parks. i think the only thing that’s made me appreciate our sweltering heat is how people across the world react to the cold with loathing hatred. anyway, that’s just my way of saying that i love this piece!!! every season truly is what you make of it, and even tho i hate the humidity and constant sweats of the desert, there’s beautiful things about it (like always being tanned ;))

WOWWWW i love this comment. thank you for sharing—it's so interesting to hear a completely opposite perspective. maybe there's no such thing as bad weather and it's all in our heads!!!! thanks for reading xx

I had the same feelings towards winter, but then also decided to change my attitude with the new year. The winter negativity over weather was affecting my life, all over something I couldn't control! Now I've tried to control the things I can — I bought a new bubblegum pink sweatsuit, I started doing dinner party fridays and even if it's just me and my husband we put out taper candles and I plate everything nicely. I started scrapbooking and sending snail mail. I started walking in the cold, and I justify it as my facial cryotherapy session. This has been my favorite January yet!

Love your photos and love your perspective! I’ve been seeing all these posts about how long January has felt, but I’ve kind of been luxuriating in all the time to start new habits, take time to myself, and get the year started on the right foot.

I am also falling head over heels in love with winter this year despite its many inconveniences. And I absolutely loved reading this. :)

Note to the Author: Your mother said she only used Swiss Miss once, and yes, it was probably expired, and heated Mannings chocolate milk the rest of the time for the best hot chocolate ever.

Soo warm and cozy. Love how you framed this-- "Although it’s tangibly cold, winter can feel so warm."

I’m French and discovered the warmth and beauty of Winter when I was 20 and landed in January Copenhagen (where I would spend a year as an exchange student). Loved your piece!

Seems ironic but it took coming to Canada for me to begin loving winters. I had never experienced snow in India, but when I came here and saw it falling oh-so-softly for the first time and then saw how the air and atmosphere changed... I just fell in love. The first snow of the season is always an event for me, and I really enjoy going for walks in the cold air—it's so invigorating and thwacks you right out of any winter malaise or lethargy.

this is the first year since i moved to new england that we’ve gotten a significant amount of snow in my area and even though seasonal depression kicks my ass, i’ve really been making an effort to go out and enjoy it. a freezing snowy day is also the perfect day for (watching) ice hockey on a pond or layering up for a walk. you’re right, winter is entirely what we make of it!

I feel like my perspective on winter changed when I went to Norway 2 years ago. winter in the arctic circle is no joke (the sun literally never rises), but nobody seemed sad about it. they embraced it!!! it was so refreshing to see people loving the season instead of complaining.

anyways, I loved this!! I’m working on a similarly commemorative piece :’) winter truly is what we make it!

I totally agree! I love winter, for many of the reasons you mentioned enjoying it this time. It's the season that most soothes my introverted, sensitive soul, and I love when it comes around again.
